Clem 7 Tunnel, Brisbane

The CLEM7 Tunnel is part of Brisbane’s Transport Plan, and the first critical component of the Lord Mayors TransApex vision that aims to reduce deficiencies in Brisbane’s urban road network. The final cost of the project was $2.65 Billion.

The CLEM7 links five existing major motorways and arterial roads on the north and south sides of the Brisbane River. The 6.8 kilometre tollway includes twin, 2–lane 4.8 kilometre tunnels.

The Project also includes a state of the art fully electronic tolling system and unique urban design and landscaping concepts that complement the subtropical lifestyle and liveability of Brisbane.

Construction commenced in 2006 shortly after Financial Close, with the LBBJV targeting an aggressive completion date. The tunnel was opened in March 2010, some 7 months earlier than the contracted date. The early completion target was facilitated by early design works that commenced shortly after announcement of RCM as the preferred bidder, which enabled the early ordering of the tunnel boring machines.
